When Sudan first offered to assemble a team for them, I turned them down. - Kwesi Appiah

The Sudanese football officials sought to engage Ghanaian trainer James Kwesi Appiah for their national squad, but he turned down their original offer to form a team.

Before agreeing to sign the Falcons of Jediane contract, the former Black Stars coach claimed he asked for a goal other than simply developing a club. Appiah stated that he was unable to sign a contract requiring him to establish a team because of the ongoing civil upheaval in Sudan and the suspension of their domestic league.

"They asked me to come help them assemble a team. I told them I wasn't ready to do it if it was only about assembling a squad, and he said to Asempa FM." I asked them if their goal was to earn a spot in the World Cup, the Africa Cup of Nations, or even the AFCON.

I'll agree to that goal in addition to team building." I told them we could set a goal and work towards it; they have good players, but I can't build a team." They have talented athletes. It only involves mentally taxing them. Round three of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations will see Sudan play Ghana on Thursday night at the Accra Sports Stadium.

With three points, the Falcons of Jediane are two points ahead of Ghana, who are presently ranked third in Group F.
