On Thursday, October 10, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium, midfielder Michael Baidoo made his debut for the Black Stars by coming off the bench to play in Ghana's goalless draw against Sudan in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match.
With ten minutes remaining, the 25-year-old Elfsborg star took Ibrahim Sulemana's place in the midfield of Atalanta as the Black Stars attempted a late comeback, but a resolute Sudanese team held on to share the spoils with Ghana. After four players, including captain Thomas Partey, withdrew from the original 25-man roster, Baidoo received a late invitation to the team.
Even though he entered the game late, the former FK Jerv star displayed flashes of brilliance, giving the club extra attacking danger as the Black Stars had multiple opportunities in the closing minutes of play.
The former Ghana U20 player will go to Libya with the team to play Sudan in the second leg of their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match. The Black Stars are in dire need of their first victory. With just two points from three games, the four-time African champions are still in third place in Group F.
